Bonnie DeHart Wire Art

I am primarily a self taught artist of many interests. Some from the Sandpoint, Idaho area
may remember me as an artist
in oil on canvas or masonite.
Indeed, some of those paintings may be found
in homes and offices from Montana to Seattle.
I also created in pen and ink as well as watercolor. Digital photography became an exciting medium
for the versatility and spontaneity it gave my art.
In all, color as well as natural beauty were the most important feature for each piece.

I am now taking the color and natural beauty
of the smaller works of nature to create one of a kind, timeless pieces of jewelry.
Wire wrapped jewelry is an art form
practiced since the early Egyptians through today. Fond of long walks or hikes in the woods,
the seashore, or the desert, my pockets are always full of something local when I return from my walks. Tucked away for future use,
I find crystals from the Arizona desert,
a special rock from Alaska’s seashore
or a fossil bone or petrified wood
from a childhood discovery walk
in Montana where I grew up.
Sharing those pieces of nature with others
has brought me a great deal of joy
as I share the history of each piece.

Myself, my husband Jerry, and our host in North Idaho have opened a lapidary work shop north of Sandpoint where a rock or stone is taken from raw material
to be cut and polished to bring out
its beauty to the fullest.
Jerry and I are full time RVers and divide our time between North Idaho in the summer
and Rockport, Texas in the cooler months of the year. My studio is in our motorhome
for the creation of my wire wrapped jewelry,
usually done during the winter.
During the time spent in Texas the past few years
I have been showing my jewelry
and digital photography art at craft shows
and private showings around the Rockport area.
I have taught wire wrapping in Rockport,
and have had requests for my classes
from a fine jewelry store in Corpus Christi.
I have done private showings in North Idaho
and continue to receive requests for my custom jewelry from Texas, Colorado and Washington
as well as Idaho.
I enjoy creating custom pieces.
The wires I work with are sterling silver,
gold filled and copper.
My primary focus is wire wrapped pendants,
often accompanied by matching earrings.
I am also designing wire designs
without framing a central stone,
such as earrings and crosses.
Fans of my jewelry artwork seek me out and purchase new pieces year after year.
My jewelry has been worn from coast to coast
and Canada to Mexico.
One of my latest designs, Kickin Up Dust,
a sterling silver wrapped snowflake
obsidian focal piece with an Appaloosa horse charm , has been accepted by Fire Mountain Gems and Beads for the Customer’s Snapshots Gallery.
I also show in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho,
and in the Groove Studio in Bonners Ferry.
I do create custom jewelry, working with the customer's stone, coin or special memento.
