Betti Jemison
Watercolors, Prints & Cards

I grew up in Southern Idaho, attended college in Salt Lake City,
and studied art at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque,
where we lived for twenty-four years.

Thorofare in Autumn

I learned about color, texture and design from my Mother.
Her creativity, expressed in her hand pieced quilts,
and fruit jars arranged in the pantry
in a medley of red, orange, peach, yellow and green,
and many other ways, continue to inspire me.

Helen's Petunias

The light of the Southwest is treasured by artists the world over, and it was there in New Mexico that my major art studies began.
My Southwestern paintings reflect my love of adobe
and the skies of New Mexico.
My Art History studies were enhanced by three weeks in Italy,
where I studied the development of the wonders of the art world
through the centuries.

Chimney Rock with Path

I have deep respect and reverence for the work of artists of today,
as well as those of long ago.
I have exhibited in regional and national shows for many years,
won awards, belonged to art associations,
and studied with a number of  nationally renowned artists.

October on Lookout Mountain

Since “coming home” to North Idaho in 1990,
I have concentrated on painting the water, woods, meadows, barns and wild flowers of our special place.
My studio overlooks Steamboat Bay on the east side of Priest Lake.
I am privileged to have a wonderful place to work,
and to observe the animals and birds who visit us occasionally.

Reflections

At the present time I am working mostly in watercolor,
in a mosaic of color as I see it in the places I love.
An autumn hillside is a symphony of color--It is joyful to behold,
and also to attempt to portray that joy on a piece of paper or canvas. There is a painting waiting to happen everywhere I look.

Priest River in Winter

My support team is my husband of almost 60 years,
our four super children, and all of our extended family,
and dear friends all over the US,
and in coutries far away, as well as people I have never met
who collect my work.  I couldn't do any of it without you.
